I was testing out this software by 2X that enable you to publish individual application seamlessly without user having to be at office. User are able to access to application via web access and connect back to your office system running your accounting software or your favourite apps. It also able to load balance your terminal server farm based on the connection, memory and cpu usage.

It works like citrix but its cheaper then cixtrix, now it comes with 5 license free and you can try it out for your self. The installation is pretty straight forward and you barely need the manual to get this software run.

Here is the list of the features:-

Application Publishing
With 2X ApplicationServer, instead of giving your users a full desktop on your terminal servers, you can give them only the applications they need. These applications can be pushed directly to the user’s desktop.

Seamless Windows capabilities
With Seamless Windows, applications running from your terminal servers will look like local applications for your users. This facilitates the introduction of server based solutions like terminal services as the remote applications coexist with local ones and users cannot even tell the difference between them.

Greater Compatibility
2X ApplicationServer & LoadBalancer Console is compatible with Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server and Windows 2008 Server. This means you do not need to upgrade your entire infrastructure to the latest Windows Server platform if all you need is application publishing with Seamless Windows capabilities.

Cross Platform Support
2X ApplicationServer is an RDP based Application Publishing solution that supports both Linux and Mac OS X clients, all with Seamless Windows capabilities. Now it is easy to bring Windows applications to all your Linux and Mac desktops!

2X Client Gateway Service
2X Client Gateway tunnels all traffic needed by 2X applications on a single port. Now you need to open only one port on your firewall and the clients will be able to launch the published applications through the 2X Client Gateway Service.

Increased Terminal Services performance
During the login sequence, the user (using default settings) connection request is forwarded to the terminal server reporting the best performance index. This ensures that the users will never be connected to a terminal server that is using all its resources (CPU, memory, etc), optimizing user experience across the terminal server farm.

Enhanced Security
When used in SSL Gateway mode, the 2X LoadBalancer provides end-to-end SSL encryption to your terminal servers. This not only greatly enhances security but also gives you a firewall/proxy friendly solution with true SSL/HTTPS capabilities.

Reconnection capabilities
When a session gets disconnected from one of the terminal servers and the user attempts to reconnect, the 2X LoadBalancer queries all terminal servers for a disconnected session from that particular user or IP address and
reconnects the user to the appropriate terminal server (asome conditions apply).

Universal Printing
Printing has been one of the difficulties for administrators of server-based computing systems. 2X Universal Printer solves this issue and printing from application via RDP sessions is not different than printing form any other application. Universal Printing installs a universal driver on the Terminal Server that works with any printer.

Multiple Farms
2X Clients have the facility to connect with Multiple Farms and publish seamless applications or published desktops from multiple farms simultaneously.

Single Sign On
Single Sign-On is a module that automates the log-in process when connecting with the 2X Client Gateway and the Terminal Servers. Single Sign-On eliminates the burden on users of having to remember, and periodically change many individual passwords, in order to access applications and data.

Web Portal
2X ApplicationServer Web Portal allows users to launch published applications and desktops from multiple farms which are accessed through a web portal according to their filter settings

I encounter this problem few times on new pc that I just do windows update, during the windows update it ask to download the SP3 patch and i do have the file offline so i cancel the download. Then i install from my offline file, after installed the SP3 patch rebooted and notice that i can’t do anymore windows update but eventualy the windows update have downloaded the updates file but can’t install it.

Then i search from the google and manage to find some solution from microsoft as below:-

Register the Wups2.dll file in Windows
To register the Wups2.dll file in Windows, follow these steps:

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

net stop wuauserv

2. Register the Wups2.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:
a. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll

Note For a computer that is running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

regsvr32 %windir%\syswow64\wups2.dll

b. Click OK on each verification message that you receive.

3. Start the Automatic Updates service. To do this, type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

net start wuauserv

4. Exit the command prompt. To do this type exit, and then press ENTER.

Another workaround method is to update the Internet Explorer to 7 first then only install the SP3 patch and you can do windows update after that.

I was given a migration project to migrate Debian mail server to Mdaemon mail server. This project include setting up the Mdaemon mail server and migrate email over 600+ mailbox on Debian mail server, at first this project seem to be very straight forward as from the first meeting with the customer they mention is 90% of the user is using outlook express. This sound like all the email will be store on the client rather than in debian mailserver right? By the time we do the installation only we found out they given us the wrong info, where 90% of the user is using webmail…. !@#$#$%#% .

When I found out that then i know this is not easy man, migrate from webmail to Mdaemon as you all know that webmail store all the email is using Maildir format and not Mbox. If the email store in Mbox format, I can use Mdaemon Multipop to pull the email from Debian mail server and this will much more easier. So the fact now is all the email is store in Maildir and it need to be migrate to Mdaemon, my first plan as follow :-

1) Copy all the email inside Maildir folder that consist of cur, new, tmp folder and paste to mdaemon server
2) Import back into Mdaemon using outlook express

The first plan sound like will work right, but end up with problems. Each of the email inside Maildir file name is too long and when copied over to windows each of the email file name is all same and it can’t be imported. So have to find another solutions and I was thinking to do the following:-

1) Convert Maildir to Mbox format
2) Copy the mbox file to Mdaemon
3) Extract the mbox file into individual emails
4) Import all the emails using outlook express

Second plan sounds good but need to see whether I can find any tools that can do that from the net, and very glad that I manage to find all the tools needed. I found a tools call Maildir to Mbox conversion from here and another tools call Mbox2eml but I have lost the website but I have uploaded the tools here.

Here you can get the manual on how to do the migrations.

This morning, going for a product briefing TripWire by TransNiaga in KL Sentral. Basically this product does is monitoring and audit all the server in the network, it does a really good job that it keep log of everything that have been done and altered by unauthorized ppl. So any problem happen to the system, you have an idea what have been done lately and by who.

Con about the product is time being it only able to do monitoring and not prohibit the unauthorized access to altered the changes. So that’s mean when virus attack, your system still down and you need to have backup unit available as the TripWire only help you determine who let the virus come in.

It does actually based on Linux tripwire and it have been improve that is can be used cross platform.
