Recently UniFi subscriber are increasing from Home to Enterprise users and we received a lot of call from customer asking whether they can bypass Dlink router and dial up from Fortigate. The answer is “Yes”, they can and I do have a similar post that is for Cyberoam UTM firewall to replace Dlink router. The steps are pretty similar and i write up this guide just for Fortigate fans.

Apple IPad2

Last 2 week just bought IPad2 from Sunway Pyramid Machine where it sell like hot cakes almost every Machine outlet running out of stock. I went to Mid Valley on Saturday noon and the rack for IPad2 was almost empty, left only 16GB Wifi model. I plan to get 32Gb 3G + Wifi model. Back home with sadness on that day so check out Machine Facebook page to check other outlet for stock, surprisingly on Facebook shown Mid-Valley still have stock and the time update was 5pm but i already backed home.

Next day, call up Sunway Pyramid to check for stock status and they still left few units of 3G model. So rush there and get 2 units as my friend want to get 1 too, scare sold off fast just book 2 unit first :) . Luckily no long queue else my wife will get mad, since she is pregnant now….

Finally its landed at our hand now and enjoying it :) ….

Replace UniFi Dlink DIR-615 router with Cyberoam

UniFi are gaining popularity now but most users complain about the Dlink router that come with it was giving so much problem and always hang. Some try to find alternative router to use with UniFi but failed on dialing up on Huawei fiber modem as on UniFi network they are having 3 VLAN consist of Data, IPTV and Voice call.

For Enterprise user they are mainly use on Data VLAN and those firewall or router that support PPPoE over VLAN can actually replace that Dlink. Here i wrote a simple guide on how to replace Dlink router with Cyberoam UTM that have the PPPoE over VLAN capabilities.

Cannot open outlook window

This morning something weird happen to my Outlook 2007 and I’ve never encounter this before where I got stuck on this error message below

20100308-outlook_error[3]

I can’t recall of doing any windows updates on the Microsoft Office suite and this just happen just overnight. I’ve check on the pst file to make sure that it does not oversize and do some system maintenance to make sure the system drive space is enough space but it does not make any good.

Manage to get some help from my favorite search engine and you just need to start the outlook with the following command

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe /resetnavpane

or you can change the shortcut properties to start with the command line every time you launch it.

Nokia XM 5800 firmware 40.0.005

Nokia-5800[1]

Just upgraded my Nokia XM 5800 firmware yesterday as the previous version 3.1 was extremely unstable causing a lot of inconvenience when using the phone. The most problematic that I encounter is when answering any call, I just can’t hear anything from the caller said. At that time you will notice that any number you press on the virtual keypad was muted as well, so the only was to resolve this is change the profile from general to meeting then changing it back and it back to normal.

I was thinking to reset my phone and see if the problem will go away but I’m stuck on trying to reset it back to factory default where it asking for the lock code and i can’t recall nor know what is the lock code. So i try my luck on the internet and just found out that newer firmware version 40.0.005 was released. I would not aspect it free from any other bug but better than keeping this old firmware so i just give it a try. The update was just easy, you just need to have an internet access and browse to the device updates to get the update. You can refer to my previous write up here on how to upgrade the firmware.

The most noticeable thing after upgrading the firmware was the performance and responsive of the UI is much more smoother and faster plus there is few of the enhancement included like below:-

  • New: Kinetic Scrolling across most of the menus.
  • New: Contacts Bar where you can add upto 4 contacts.
  • New: Ovi Contacts.
  • New: Widgetized Shortcuts homescreen similiar to Nokia 5530.
  • Download! app has now been removed. Anyways it had become redundant after the release of Ovi Store client.
  • QWERTY Keyboard Automatically Rotates on the text input screens.
  • Under Applications, “App Update” has now been changed to “SW Update” similiar to Nokia N97 and N97 Mini.
  • Better Responsive UI.

Upgrade your phone today and wait no more….

NTFS-3G

Last sat I went to my friend place as I was getting external Flash for my E-300 CAM and we exchange some of the photography knowledge. He showing me some of his photo in his Macbook Pro and he ask me why can’t copy anything to his portable hard disk? I was wondering should be file system issue, so I ask him to show me and when the drive mounted it was only stated read-only.

Not sure if it really not support to do read-write on Mac as I was not a Mac user, but I manage to find the solution for him and thanks to Google that really useful search engine nowadays. The software that I found is NTFS-3G release by Tuxera and the installation was easy and fast.

TFS-3G is a stable read/write NTFS driver for Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenSolaris, QNX, Haiku, and other operating systems. It provides safe and fast handling of the Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 file systems.
