I’m going to Penang next Thursday (17-04-08) with my wife for holidays and food finding. Anyone have any nice food to recommend, please feel free to drop some and i will try it out.
This will be our second time stepping into Penang as first visit was on year 2003.I miss some of the food there especially Asam laksa, fried Oyster (ho chian) and etc. How does the Penang name come from? this is what i found in wikipedia
The island was referred to as 檳榔嶼 (Bīnláng Yù) in the navigational drawings used by Admiral Zheng He of Ming-dynasty China in his expeditions to the South Seas in the 15th century. Early Malays called it Pulau Ka-Satu or “First Island”.
The name “Penang” comes from the modern Malay name Pulau Pinang, which means island of the betel nut tree (Areca catechu), family Palmae. In Chinese, Penang is known as 檳城 (pinyin: Bīnchéng / Bīngchéng; Hokkien: Peng Sheah). All three names can refer either to the island of Penang, the state of Penang or sometimes the state capital, George Town.
More specifically, George Town is known as Tanjung in Malay and 喬治市 (Qiáozhì Shì) in Chinese. Penang Island is simply Pulau Pinang (/’pulaʊ ‘pinaŋ/) in Malay and 檳榔嶼 (Bīnláng Xù) in Chinese, and Penang state is Negeri Pulau Pinang in Malay and 檳州 (Bīn Zhōu) in Chinese.
I will post all the photos and all the food we taste when we back…stay tuned.
Wish all Chinese reader a Happy Chinese New Year 2008 with a fortune mouse year and others a happy holidays.
For those who driving back to home town, drive carefully and have a great time together with families member. For e those who celebrate in K, enjoy the time where you don’t have to stuck in jams .
Mythology
According to legend, in ancient China, the Nián (年) was a man-eating beast from the mountains (in other versions from under the sea), which came out every 12 months somewhere close to winter to prey on humans. The people later believed that the Nian was sensitive to loud noises and the colour red, so they scared it away with explosions, fireworks and the liberal use of the colour red. These customs led to the first New Year celebrations. Guò nián (simplified Chinese: 过年; traditional Chinese: 過年), which means to celebrate the new year, literally means the passover of the Nian.
Been busy lately and have stop updates on my blog, now I’m back. I post my last trip to melaka, that is about 2 week back during the Depavalli holidays. Me and my wife went to Melaka A`Famosa Resort for 2 days 1 night package that include 2 entry to Safari World and Cowboy Town for RM 280. Not bad for that price we pay for but… be frank, not much thing to see nor play. The Safari World is quite interesting where you have 4 show to catch that is Multi Animal show, Elephant show, Bird show and Wild Wild West show. Among all 4 i likes the Bird show where you can see a lot of different birds flying across your head, that is awesome and it remind me the time we went to Australia.
Other then that, most of the time you see those animal just lying there sleeping as the weather is too hot for all the animal to move around. What do you called a Cowboy Town without a cowboy? strange right and I really can’t see any cowboy, worst part is they put all the fun fair games inside a cowboy town. Don’t ever try the food in the Cowboy Town as the food like left over food and sky high price.
Only 2 thing is worth to see in the Cowboy town the is Carnival Parade and Red Indian show, that takes about 2 hrs and end the show with fireworks. The following is the Red Indian Show

Sunday is family days and we go to Kuala Selangor for seafood with my parent in-law and cousin, most of the times they prefer to go kuala Selangor seafood compare to Teluk Gong near banting as there more expensive and crowded.
This time they have a mission that is to find a famous vegetarian pao, chicken pao and yam cake. The coffee shop located on your halfway through to Kuala Selangor from Kapar klang before Sasaran, you will see a mosque and a Petronas petrol station. The shop is in the middle of the mosque and petrol station, then you can see the “Kedai Kopi Shin Lok” and you have reach the destination.
You will be surprise most of the people is enjoying the pao and you need to wait for the “Pao” as they make it fresh everyday as you can see the production place just behind the shop. It may takes up to hours for the pao to serve and we have order some to bring back home when we back from Kuala Selangor.
Do drop by this coffee shop for the fresh steam “pao” if you’re around that area.

Today we plan to go to the new shopping complex in KL, The Pavalion with my cousin. Normally newly open shopping complex will get a lot of crowd and not to surprise finding car park is another nightmares, luckily we manage to find a parking nearby. Most of the shop already open, mostly are high class and branded brands like Aigner, Club Monaco, Coach, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hermes, Hugo Boss, Juicy Couture, Prada and Versace plus a Jaguar showroom. Wonder why it put a showroom in a shopping complex, could it be next time when friend ask what you had bought on your shopping? “nothing much, just bought a new jaguar” .
On Tuesday night, during the moon cake festival we all gather around outside of my grandma house and play with all my cousin. We light up the house using candle and “Tang lung” to decorate the house while enjoy moon cake with Chinese tea.
One fo the funniest thing my cousin brother do is the bicycle drift, have a look at the video below.
Sunday normally is a family days where all the parent bring their kids to playground or park to gather around playing games or jogging. Me and my wife plan to go for a jogging session on sunday too and we woke up at 7:00 am and drive to our nearest park in Bukit Jalil. By the time we reach there, there is quite a lot of people already start the activities. But we are not that late and we start jog around the park, it is not as small park as i thought about. It really need a good stamina to jog round the park but we only manage jog for about 30 min.
After we done our jogging and had a fresh air, we go for our breakfast in Sri Petaling “old town cafe” for a light breakfast. We had 2 cup of coffe, double kaya & butter bread, garlic bread and 4 pcs of half-boiled eggs.
Home sweet home by the time we reach its only 10:30 am, still got lots of time to spend for the day. We watch movie and clean our room, also make ourself a pasta lunch for my mom and dad too.
